GNESA’s Pediatric/Adolescent SANE/SAFE Didactic Training Program
This program is designed for medical providers interested in providing forensic-medical assessments and care to pediatric/adolescent victims of sexual assault. The 40 hour didactic portion is conducted over a 5 (8 hr) day period and attendance for the entire training is required to receive continuing education credit hours. This course is designed to provide Registered Nurses, MDs and PAs with a comprehensive education program consisting of the following content and in accordance with the recommendations of the International Association of Forensic Nurses educational guidelines for Pediatric/Adolescent content:
Overview of Forensic Nursing and Child Sexual Abuse
Victim Responses and Crisis Intervention
Collaborating with Community Agencies
Medicolegal History Taking
Observing and Assessing Physical Examination Findings
Medicolegal Specimen Collection
Medicolegal Photography
Sexually Transmitted Infection Testing and Prophylaxis
Pregnancy Testing and Prophylaxis
Medicolegal Documentation
Discharge and Follow-up Planning
Courtroom Testimony and Legal Considerations
Prerequisites for Participation in Didactic Training
(Read all materials for specifics):
Current Georgia RN license (or other licensure as appropriate)
Copy of a current (within 60 days), clear background check (to be obtained by and at the expense of participant)

Proof of Adult/Adolescent SANE completion (didactic and clinical) only IF already completed (but not a prerequisite)
Additional clinical training is required in order to complete the SANE training program.

Please note that attendance is required all 5 days and all 40 hours of the training or all attendees.
ADDITIONAL CLINICAL TRAINING IS REQUIRED TO PRACTICE AS A SANE IN GEORGIA. VERIFICATION OF TRAINING ATTENDANCE/COMPLETION AND DEPOSIT REFUND WILL BE SENT ONLY AFTER PARTICIPANT HAS COMPLETED ALL TRAINING AS REQUIRED.
